Author:

Rating:

An adaptation of Lew Wallace 1880 novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ, Judah Ben-Hur (Jack Huston), is falsely accused of an assassination attempt by his childhood friend and adoptive brother Messala (Toby Kebbell). He survives years of slavery under the Romans and rises from the ranks hoping to one day get his revenge. The Premise is somewhat familiar, Gladiator comes to mind, I wish I could say they had more in common then the story, Like perhaps rich character development, However this isn't the case, If Timur had spent half the money on the story instead of the visual effects, Maybe we would have had a modern day Gladiator on our hands instead of this... Abomination. Although I have been a fan Bekmambetov's work, This was disappointing. It wasn't all bad, There were a few redeeming qualities, for instance; The costumes and environments were exquisite. If you can bare to sit through two and a half hours of poor storytelling then the visual effects are almost worth it, Almost.
